Below is information regarding the 2025 Annual Tax Sale, which was held on November 3, 2025. This information is presented as it was posted prior to the sale and is not current at this time.
Bidder Registration
The bidder registration period opened at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, October 16 2025 and closed promptly at 12:00 p.m. Friday, October 31 2025. If your application arrived past the cutoff time, it will not be accepted.
If bidding on behalf of a business, a W-9 or Certificate of Existence is required. Bidder numbers will not be assigned until a registration form is complete and the registration fee is paid!
Tax Sale
The Georgetown County Annual Tax Sale will be held on Monday, November 3 2025 in the County Council Chambers located on the second floor of the Historic Courthouse (129 Screven St., Georgetown, SC 29440). Bidders may sign in from 9:00am until 9:45am, bidding will begin promptly at 10:00am.
Due to limited space, ONLY REGISTERED BIDDERS and one additional person (space permitting) will be allowed into the auction area. No food or drinks will be allowed.
IMPORTANT: per fire code, the maximum capacity of the room the Tax Sale will be held in is 145 persons. Once this number has been reached, no further admittance will be permitted. If there are 145 bidders signed up for the Tax Sale, additional persons will not be permitted to enter.
Before The Sale
Bidders must register in advance with the Georgetown County Delinquent Tax Department. The bidder registration period will open at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, October 16 2025 and close promptly at 12:00 p.m. Friday, October 31 2025. Bidder registration is not permitted on the day of sale. A registration fee of $25.00 is required at the time of registration, and must include a copy of your ID. If bidding on behalf of a business, a W-9 or Certificate of Existence is required.
If a bidder chooses to mail in the registration form and check, these must be received by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31, 2025. If your application arrives past the cutoff time, it will not be accepted.
All real and personal property must be advertised prior to the tax sale. The list will be published in the Coastal Observer and will also be available online beginning Thursday, October 16 2025. Hard copies of the tax sale list will be available in the Treasurer's Office for $25.00.

During The Sale
The opening bid is the minimum bid and includes the delinquent taxes due, title abstracting fees, and taxes owed for the current year. Bidding will proceed in no less than One Hundred Dollar ($100) increments.
After The Sale
All bid payments must be paid in full by 5:00 p.m., the close of business, on the day of the sale with guaranteed funds. A successful bidder who does not pay for their bid is subject to a fine of $500.00 per property pursuant to South Carolina State Statute 12-51-70, and the bidder may be prohibited from bidding in future tax sales. A Temporary Sale Receipt will be issued and must be retained by the bidder.
Please note: this year's Tax Sale will be cashless. Once the sale has concluded, bidder payments MUST be in the form of a cashier's check or money order only. No personal checks will be accepted.
