Documented Vessels (registered with the US Coast Guard)
The US Coast Guard along with the Dept. of Revenue provides the County with a list of all documented vessels registered in Georgetown County. Documented vessels are taxed at a 10.5% ratio, and notices are sent in the fall at the same time as real estate.
If you owned the vessel as of December 31st, prior year taxes are due for the current year.
For example: If the vessel is sold January 1st-December 31st of a year, the taxes for that year are due from the seller.
If you sell the vessel, please follow all US Coast Guard requirements for documentation and provide the Auditor’s office a copy of the bill of sale as soon as possible. This will ensure the vessel is removed from your account appropriately.

Aircraft
The FAA and the Dept. of Revenue provides the County with a list of all aircraft registered in Georgetown County. County Airports also provide listings of aircraft that are hangared in the County. Aircraft are taxed at a 4% ratio, and notices are mailed in the fall at the same time as real estate.
If you owned the aircraft as of Dec. 31s prior year, taxes are due for the current year.
For example: If the aircraft is sold anytime between January 1st and December 31st of a year, the taxes for that year are due from the seller.
If you sell the aircraft, please follow all FAA requirements for documentation and provide a copy of the bill of sale to the Auditor’s office as soon as possible. This will ensure the aircraft is removed from your account appropriately.
