"Where life is good."
That's more than just a slogan in Georgetown County. It's why visitors keep coming back here year after year - many eventually calling it home - and why so many of those who were born here never want to leave.
Located on the coast of South Carolina, Georgetown County is home to a wealth of history and culture, and some of the state's most beautiful beaches, marshes and rivers. Whether your thing is lazing on the beach, enjoying an ocean breeze from a porch rocking chair, or something a bit more active, Georgetown County has something to appeal to everyone.
Water Resources
With the Atlantic Ocean, Winyah Bay, and five rivers, plus creeks and inlets, Georgetown County can offer a range of water-related activities including fresh water or deep sea fishing, paddle boarding, boating, canoeing, kayaking, parasailing and surfing.
Beaches
One of the best things about Georgetown County is that our beaches aren't crowded. From the old-fashioned simplicity of "arrogantly shabby" Pawleys Island, to the more contemporary surroundings of Litchfield beaches, visitors can choose the atmosphere and pace that best suit them. We also have beaches within gated communities. Shell-gathering tours can be booked to undeveloped barrier islands, one of which is home to the Georgetown Lighthouse.
History
Georgetown County has a long and rich history. Visit plantations, tour slave cabins, see historic homes and buildings, and learn about our unique Gullah culture.
Tours
Learn about our unique area with historical (walking or trolley) tours, ghost tours, boat tours, or tours of cemeteries where slaves and plantation owners are buried.
Golf
Georgetown County offers more than a dozen golf courses. Play on award-winning courses surrounded by cypress swamps and rice fields, and dotted with moss-draped oak trees. It is also home to the Waccamaw Golf Trail.
Hunting
Head out into the backcountry for quail hunting and sporting-clay shooting facilities. During hunting season, wild turkey, boar and deer are plentiful in the county's wetlands and forests. In March, enjoy the Winyah Bay Heritage Festival, a celebration of the tradition of the outdoors.
Cycling
Cruise the Waccamaw Neck area and get a workout at the same time on the Bike the Neck path, a paved cycling trail that meanders through woods, residential areas and over bridges, from Murrells Inlet to Pawleys Island. It currently encompasses 12 scenic miles, but will eventually stretch all the way to Hobcaw Barony, near the City of Georgetown.
Recreation
From fishing piers and boat landings to tournament-level tennis courts, baseball complexes and much more, Georgetown County offers a wide range of recreational facilities and programs.
