The Waccamaw Bikeway is an exceptionally popular paved trail that runs through the Pawleys Island, Litchfield and Murrells Inlet areas of Georgetown County. The majority of the path runs parallel to Highway 17 from the South Causeway. It cuts down Waverly and Kings River roads to Willbrook Boulevard and back to Highway 17, where it crosses through beautiful Huntington Beach State Park, across the marsh in Murrells Inlet and up to the Georgetown/Horry county line.
Originally known as the Bike the Neck project, the bikeway is part of the East Coast Greenway, a 3,000-mile trail system that runs along the eastern seaboard from Maine to Florida.
The Waccamaw Bikeway was created through Public/Private Partnerships. Plans are to eventually have the path run south from Pawleys Island to Georgetown.
