91-year-old retires from Georgetown County

The Georgetown County Public Services Department recently had a retirement celebration the likes of which it has never had before. The retiree was 91 years old.

Jacob Frasier, affectionately known as “Mr. Jacob,” retired in April after 13 years as a recycling attendant. He started working with the county at the Dunbar Recycling Center and finished his career at the Landfill Recycling Center. He plans to move north to be near his children and grandchildren.

“We wish him many blessings and much happiness in the exciting days that lie ahead, but we will certainly miss him,” said Ray Funnye, director of Georgetown County Public Services. Since joining the county staff in January 2008, Frasier was not only a good worker, but was described as “a true inspiration to his coworkers and the residents of the county.”

“Mr. Jacob’s smile and kind attitude are contagious and always so welcoming. He is a truly valued employee,” said Michelle LaRocco, manager of the Environmental Services Division.

Frasier was born in Georgetown County and – except for a handful of years – lived and worked here his entire life. He said it was his pleasure to serve his community and do the best job he could for its residents.

“We should all strive to have your energy and your will to serve our community – and to be as physically active as you are at 91 years young,” Funnye told Frasier as he was recognized on his last day of work.

Georgetown County would officially like to thank Mr. Frasier for his years of service and wish him well in his next chapter of life.
